Peter Williams was born in 1934 in Ruatoria  and grew up on a sheep station near Gisborne. The artist is famous for his race-track paintings, but also did many wonderful farm scenes, landscapes and many oter subjects. As a young man, the artist worked his own small sheep and cattle farm, but soon his talent won him awards, commissions and recognition, both here in NZ and in Australia.  Later in life he shared his time between New Zealand and the US, where he became famous as an equestrian artist, capturing the exciting atmosphere of the race tracks. He was commissioned by royalty, art collections and equine organisations around the world. Williams died in 2018 at his home in Kentucky.
